Hasni Hardi Parlan, 32, held a bachelor's degree in marine engineering and worked as a gas engineer in a shipping company in the United Kingdom for 10 years. Hasni would return to Malaysia once every three months. The second of five siblings promised his mother Asiah Rajikun, 56, that they would celebrate their birthdays together. Hasni never got to see his three-month-old son, Ahmad Ammar.
