IT was an eventful week for the business fraternity especially after the tabling of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in Dewan Rakyat that led to the resignation of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) board of directors.

The arrest of a member of the country's opposition pact also had ruffled feathers in the country's political scene.

Elsewhere in Panama, the worms are out of the can, so to speak.

In a revelation that had caused The Panama Papers information leak involved over 11.5 million confidential documents created by Panamanian corporate service provider Mossack Fonseca.

Philippines to assist locate abducted Malaysians


Malaysia on this day, sought the Philippines Government’s help to locate the four Malaysians abducted by gunmen on April 1.

In a statement today, Wisma Putra said Malaysian Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman had spoken to Philippines Secretary of Foreign Affairs Jose Rene Almendras.

It was previously reported that the four were abducted by eight armed men off Pulau Ligitan, Sabah while returning to Malaysia from the Philippines between 6pm and 7pm.

Elsewhere in the East Coast of Malaysia, Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman refused to entertain hearsay claiming he might be stripped off his MB post.

He said he has no interest in entertaining such affairs, instead he is focusing on his duties and responsibilities.

Sabah suspends all barter trades, oil and gas activities within ESSZONE

In an effort to safeguard the coastal of Sabah, the state government has agreed to immediately suspend barter trade activities as well as commercial petroleum and gas activities within the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZONE).

1MDB's financial performance not satisfactory, PAC says


1MDB's capital financing structure and financial performance are "not satisfactory" said the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), today.

This has led to weak corporate governance, the PAC said in its report, tabled in the Parliament.

1MDB's board offer resignation following PAC's report today


The business fraternity was shocked when the six-men board of 1MDB offered their resignations to MoF Inc, following the tabling of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report in Parliament, today.

The unanimous decision came as a surprise to many but the Board in a statement stated that they have successfully steered 1MDB through a uniquely challenging period and trusts that, with the release of the PAC Report, a line has been drawn.

Following the tabling of the 106-page report, the PAC said it was crucial for relevant bodies to conduct a probe on 1MDB ex-CEO Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi for the company's weakness and constraints.

MARA said it will offer a 50 per cent discount to its borrowers who have failed to complete their studies. The move is to lessen their burden, MARA chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa said.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) was made with the consensus by all of its 14 members, including Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua.
