The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) has asked for a stop to all undue speculation about MH370 as it will only cause anguish to those left behind.

“We would like to urge everyone to refrain from undue speculation, which will only cause stress to the families and loved ones, anxiously awaiting news on this matter,” the DCA said in statement issued today.

“We will continue to keep the next of kin and public updated on any latest developments of MH370.”

On Saturday, police in Sandakan, Sabah said they had received a report claiming that wreckage of a crashed plane containing a Malaysian flag had been found on a remote island in the southern Philippines.

The report was filed by a man named Jamil, who claimed that a relative had stumbled upon aircraft wreckage on Sugbay Island, Tawi-Tawi.

Jamil claimed the wreckage contained many human skeletons and bones, and a Malaysian flag measuring 70 inches long and 35 inches wide had also been found.

On Monday, Malaysian police together with authorities in the Philippines dismissed the claim, saying no wreckage was found, as claimed in the police report lodged in Sandakan on Saturday.

“It’s not true. Philippine authorities have confirmed there is no aircraft wreckage,” Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar told Bernama.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 was reported missing on March 8, 2014 while on its way to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur with 239 passengers and crew members on board.

The search for the aircraft was mainly focused in the southern Indian Ocean where the plane is believed to have ended.

On August 6, it was confirmed that airplane debris found on Reunion Island, came from MH370.
