The incident which befell Lance Corporal Mohd Azuan Abdullah who died after being rammed by a robbery suspect's car in Selama yesterday afternoon was a sacrifice and a manifestation of police dedication to the people, Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

He said police deeply appreciated the service Mohd Azuan contributed in combating crimes including sacrificing his own life.

"We want the community to know the duty of police in eradicating crimes can be extremely deadly including sacrificing one's own life," he told reporters after paying his last respects to the lance corporal at the Forensics Unit of the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here Monday.

In this regard, he said the people and human rights champions should also be concerned with the sacrifice put up by police in combating crimes.

Also present were Perak police chief Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, Perak CID chief Datuk Mohd Dzuraidi Ibrahim and Kerian police chief Supt Mat Fauzi Nayan.

In the 1.15pm incident, Mohd Azuan of the Kerian police motorcycle patrol unit died while his partner was injured when a car driven by a robber rammed into their motorcycle at the 10th Mile of the road towards Alor Pongsu near Parit Buntar.

They were knocked down by the suspect who was involved in a robbery case near Alor Pongsu.

Ahmad Zahid said the body would be brought back to Mohd Azuan's home village in Kulai, Johor for burial this morning.

Asked on the Toyota Wish which was found burned in a banana farm between Lunas and Ara Kuda in Tasek Gelugor, Penang, he said police would conduct further investigations on the find.

Ahmad Zahid also made a personal contribution to family of the deceased policeman through Mat Fauzi.

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar gave his assurance that police will track down the killers.

Khalid through his Twitter account expressed his condolences to Mohd Azuan's family over their loss.

"All the members in the police force share their grief over Mohd Azuan's untimely death while on duty in Krian. His killers are being traced," he said.

Mohd Azuan's father, Abdullah Mahmood, said his son was supposed to wed tomorrow.
