The cop who died after being rammed by a robber's car yesterday was due to tie the knot on Wednesday.

Mohd Azuan Abdullah of the Kerian police motorcycle patrol unit died while his partner was injured when a car driven by a robber rammed into their motorcycle at the 10th Mile Alor Pongsu-Parit Buntar Road at 1.15pm yesterday.

His father Abdullah Mahmood, 49, said yesterday was his last day at work before going on leave for his wedding on Wednesday with the reception set for June 1.

"According to our plans, the family was to meet him in Kedah (for the wedding solemnisation)," he said when met at his home in Taman Scientex here.

He said the reception on the groom's side was to be held after Aidilfitri.

Abdullah said Mohd Azuan had wanted to join the police force from young and was a dedicated policeman.

"It was all he wanted (join the police force) and I encouraged him by helping to fill the application form right up to sending him to the Ayer Itam police training centre in Negeri Sembilan.

"He constantly shared with the family his experiences in the force the last five years, some of which were exciting and others saddening but as a father I advised him to work with full commitment but at the same time to be careful," he said when met his home in Taman Scientex here.

Abdullah, who was still in a state of shock, said the last time he spoke to his son, who is the third of four siblings, was on May 16 and the family were last together when he got engaged three months ago.

Besides regular contact on the phone, he also followed his son's progress on Facebook and till today kept his trainee pass at the police training centre, Abdullah said.

He said he came to know about Mohd Azuan's death through his daughter before being officially notified by the police.

Abdullah said he accepted his son's death as fate and hoped police would catch the criminals soon and bring them to justice.

He added that the funeral was scheduled for today at the Batu 22 Muslim Cemetery in Kulaijaya.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had promised yesterday that Mohd Azuan's killers will be traced and brought to justice.
