Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali has been urged to prove his recent statement of wanting to spend more time with the people, emulating Indonesian president Joko Widodo, or more commonly known as Jokowi.

State opposition leader, Datuk Mohd Shamsuddin Lias said, it is still too early for any party to describe Azmin as Jokowi and to evaluate his performance as Menteri Besar.

“He just has to prove it, that’s all. So we wait. He said he wanted to emulate Jokowi, so prove that he will spend more time with the people.

“It’s only been a month since he held the menteri besar post, so he is still very eager. We’ll just have to wait a while longer to evaluate his administration,” he said when contacted here today.

Mohd Shamsuddin, who is also the Sungai Burong state assemblyman, had been asked to comment on Azmin’s statement saying his weekly on-ground programmes are inspired by Jokowi.

Azmin said, Jokowi spends the majority of his time with the people than staying in his office, the kind of administration he wants to apply in Selangor.

Azmin was sworn in as the 15th Selangor Menteri Besar on September 23 before the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

On a separate matter, Mohd Shamsuddin stressed, it was unfair for any party to accuse Port Klang assemblyman, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim of wanting to relinquish his post before the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting in November.

He said, Abdul Khalid, who is also the former Selangor Menteri Besar, has gone through numerous obstacles in the attempt to remove him from office.

“It’s not right to strike Abdul Khalid when he’s down.

“To assume he won’t show up during the assembly sitting is wrong. What if he does show up? We have to wait before making any statements,” he said.

Former Selangor Menteri Besar, Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo had previously said Abdul Khalid will relinquish his post as assemblyman by simply not attending the state assembly sitting.

Selangor Umno liaison secretary Datuk Johan Abdul Aziz had also urged Abdul Khalid to resign from his post if he no longer wanted to serve the people in his constituency.
