Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali acknowledged that his weekly on-ground programmes (turun padang) is inspired by Indonesian president Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

He explained that Jokowi is seen spending the majority of his time with the people as compared in the office, a pattern which he wants to apply in administrating the state.

“I know Bapak Jokowi and have met him last year. Jokowi told me...’Azmin, 20 percent of my time is in the office, the rest are with the people.'”

“Yes, I want to emulate his style because he is committed to be with the people and to hear their plight,” Azmin said.

Some have uploaded photos of Azmin on social media interacting with the people and seeing the hardships they are going through.

Jokowi’s rise gives hope to young Indonesians which form the majority from the country’s population of 250 million.

In his inauguration speech, Jokowi urged Indonesians from all walks of life to work hard.

He said people from all walks of life including fishermen, traders, small scale businessmen to giant entrepreneurs, should work hard to create a better future for Indonesia.

In other matters, Azmin has also submitted a written request to Energy, Green Technology, and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili for the government to reveal the details of the Selangor water deal.

According to an insider, Azmin wants the details of the agreement and for the public to know about the deal.

“Until now, there are no developments, only a written request,” said the source.

Azmin also said he has no intention to revoke the agreement between the Federal Government and the State Government over quality water supply in the state.
