One of the suspects involved in an attack on a businessman at a food stall in Jalan Empat, Chan Sow Lin here Monday, has been remanded for seven days starting Tuesday to assist investigations.

Cheras deputy police chief Supt Ismadi Borhan said the suspect in his 30s was injured when he was shot by the bodyguard of another businessman, would be taken to the Dangi Wangi police headquarters after being treated at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre (PPUKM).

"The suspect is now in stable condition at PPUKM while his accomplice is still being tracked down," he told Bernama Tuesday.

In the 9.20 am incident Monday, one of the two businessmen who were having breakfast together at the stall was injured after being slashed by two men armed with machetes.

The bodyguard fired several shots at the two suspects and one of the suspects was hit while the other escaped.

In the incident, a stall worker was also hit by a stray bullet on the leg.

Asked on the bodyguard, Ismadi declined to comment.

Ismadi said the case was being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and Section 37 of the Firearms Act.
