Three men were injured in a shooting and parang-wielding incident at a foodstall in Jalan Empat, Chan Sow Lin, here yesterday.

The incident occurred about 9.20 am when two businessmen, both with the "datuk" title, were having breakfast at the stall when two men approached and attacked one of the datuk.

Cheras district police chief ACP Chong Kok Sin said the two suspects then took out their machetes and slashed the victim on the back and face, while the other businessman fled.

"The victim's personal bodyguard who saw the incident took out a Glock 99 pistol and fired several shots at the suspects.

"The shots hit one of the suspects, while the other fled in a gold-coloured Toyota Hilux car with another man inside," he told reporters at the scene.

Chong said the suspect who was shot was sent to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre for treatment and placed in police custody.

"A male worker at the foodstall was also shot in the leg in the incident and was sent to a hospital for treatment, while the injured businessman was sent to a hospital in Bangsar for treatment," he added.
