The Road Transport Department (RTD) today apologised to the woman who was asked to wear a sarong in order to receive service at one of the agency's offices.

In a media statement issued today, the RTD issued an open apology to Suzanne G. L. Tan for the inconvience she had to endure.

The department also said it was not part of its police to provide a sarong to customers not dressed formally at its offices as it would cause uneasiness among the public.

The RTD maintained however, that it imposes a dress code on all visitors, much like that imposed on other government department and advised the public to adhere to it.


The RTD issued an open apology to the woman asked to wear a sarong at one of its offices.


Meanwhile Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Liow Tion Lai said, an investigation over the matter has been launched and action would be taken.

He stressed that authorities should not burden the public with unnecessary dress code guideline," Liow said in a post on his official Facebook page today.


His post quickly drew the attention among netizens, with one using the handle Brendam Lim hoped authorities would take immediate action on those responsible as it was insensitive towards other races.


Another comment by account holder Spartacus meanwhile was of the opinion that the public should adhere to the dress code imposed by government departments and those wearing indecent attire such as short skirts above the knees be barred from the premises.
