Singapore has preliminarily confirmed an additional 768 cases of COVID-19 infection, bringing the tally to 21,707.

The republic's Ministry of Health (MOH) said 10 cases involved Singaporeans or permanent residents while the “vast majority” of the cases involved foreign workers residing at dormitories.

In a statement today, the ministry said it is still working on the details of the cases and would provide an update later in the day.

Singapore is in the midst of easing some of the tighter circuit breaker measures, progressively, starting this week. At the same time, the republic is preparing for the safe and gradual resumption of economic and community activities after the end of the circuit breaker period on June 1, 2020.

In the details released late Thursday, Singapore has so far classified 1,261 as community cases, 579 as imported cases and 616 cases involving work permit holders residing outside dorms.

Foreign workers at dorms, meanwhile, dominated Thursday’s tally of 20,939, taking about 88.3 per cent or 18,483 cases.

The republic also identified six new clusters on Thursday while its largest cluster S11 Dormitory @ Punggol has a total of 2,529 confirmed cases.

At present, 1,712 patients have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities while 1,376 cases remain hospitalised with 19 in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

The ministry said 17,831 cases who have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive for COVID-19 have been isolated and cared for at community facilities.

Twenty have died from complications due to COVID-19 infections here.
