UMNO has never been involved in sponsorship or any matters involving the Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu scheduled to be held on September 16.

However, UMNO president, Datuk Seri Najib Razak pointed out, several party leaders involved as representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) expressed their willingness to join the rally.

“UMNO is not involved in the rally but there are some of our leaders who are NGO representatives on that day.

“We must obey the law of the country and the police. We will also not allow any rally which will damage the country’s security and its racial platform.

“UMNO believes in the importance of racial relationship,” said Najib during a press conference held after chairing the UMNO Supreme Council meeting here today.

The Supreme Council meeting this time was the first to be held following the cancellation of its original meeting scheduled to be held on July 31.

On Tuesday, Gabungan NGO-NGO Malaysia chairman, Datuk Jamal Md. Yunus said speculated cancellation of the rally by Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu which involved the participation of at least 300,000 people on September 16 is not true.
