There was nothing wrong in Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah attendance at the Pakatan Harapan's event last week, UMNO disciplinary board chairman Tan Sri Megat Najmuddin Megat Khas said.

Refuting UMNO secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor’s claim that Saifuddin had committed serious offence with his act, Megat Najmuddin told The Malaysian Insider that this is not a problem.

“If it's just a matter of him attending an event by the opposition, I don't think that's a problem. It's normal, unless he actively condemned Umno, then that's another matter,” the portal quoted him saying.

"If he just attended it, then that's alright. We want to know as well what the opposition‎ is saying and doing," he was quoted.

Tengku Adnan had said although Saifuddin did not go to the event in his capacity as an UMNO member, his attendance there had painted a negative picture of the party.

Meanwhile, UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said Saifuddin might have violated the UMNO party constitution by attending the Opposition parties' round table meet.

He opined that it wouldn’t have been a problem if the programme was a debate or a forum, but said the event was a programme which discussed the political cooperation between Opposition parties to decide the direction of Pakatan Harapan.
