A total of 627 early voters comprising police personnel and their spouses will vote today in the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat by-election from 8am today.

The polling is being conducted at two venues - Dewan Gemilang at the Seberang Perai Tengah district police headquarters, and at the family quarters of the Kubang Semang Police Station.

The voting centre at the family quarters will be closed at 2pm and the one at Dewan Gemilang at 5pm.

A total of 597 voters will vote at the Dewan Gemilang and another 30 at the family quarters.

The Permatang Pauh by-election on May 7 will see a four-cornered fight between Suhaimi Sabudin (Barisan Nasional), Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PKR), Azman Shah Othman (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and Salleh Isahak (Independent).

It is being held following the Pardons Board's rejection of the petition for a royal pardon made by the incumbent MP Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim through his family, resulting in him being disqualified as as elected representative.

Anwar is currently serving a five-year jail sentence for his sodomy conviction.
