Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said has stepped down from his post effective today.

According to The Star Online, this matter has been confirmed by Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

Tengku Adnan reportedly said Ahmad Said handed his resignation letter to the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin today and the new Menteri Besar is expected to be sworn in at 8pm tonight at the Istana Syarqiyyah in Terengganu.

Although Tengku Adnan did not name Ahmad Said's successor, Seberang Takir assemblyman Datuk Abdul Razif Abdul Rahman had been widely speculated to be the most likely candidate for the post.

The topic of Ahmad Said's replacement had been widely discussed in the media, starting first with Umno's mouthpiece Utusan Malaysia in its Awang Selamat column which said there would be a change of MBs in some states.

Ahmad Said, on the other hand, said the news was spread by irresponsible people who wants to spilt Umno in the state.

It was reported that the reason for his resignation was due to an 'agreement' with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak that he would stay on for only a year after the 13th general election last year.
