Islamic scholar Dr Zakir Abdul Karim Naik could still continue his lecture series in Malaysia, as long as it did not threaten the peace and harmony of this country.

Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the police would monitor the title of the controversial preacher's lectures as long as it did not trigger any religious sensitivities and racial tensions.

"We will check on the titles of his talks (Dr Zakir)," Khalid told Astro AWANI in a brief WhatsApp message late Monday.

Dr Zakir, who is on a tour of Malaysia, was supposed to deliver a talk titled "Similarities Between Hinduism & Islam" at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) this Sunday.

He will visit Sekolah Menengah Imtiaz Yayasan Terengganu in Besut and Kemaman on April 12 and 14.

Earlier, the police decided not to allow Dr Zakir's programme this weekend to go ahead as scheduled.

Khalid had initially cited public order and religious sensitivities as the reason not to allow the Mumbai-based preacher to deliver his speech.

Yesterday, the MIC Youth had lodged police reports regarding the talk and called on the police not to allow the programme to take place.

MIC Youth chief C. Sivarraajh said the wing was disappointed with UTeM for inviting Dr Zakir.
