KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) Youth today proposed four types of aid to ease the people's burden during the first phase of the total lockdown that begins Tuesday.

Its chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin said among them were the B40 and M40 targeted assistance schemes, automatic moratorium without interest charges for two months, wage subsidies and cash injection for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

He also suggested more television broadcasts of educational and religious programmes be aired throughout the lockdown period.

Khairul Nizam said the government must be sensitive to the basic needs of the people for survival, especially for the B40 and M40 groups.

He said the PN Youth also hoped all parties will work together to overcome the COVID-19 situation, and also advised the people to plan their expenses during this period.

As a result of a drastic spike in COVID-19 cases, the government announced a total lockdown nationwide, the first phase of which will take effect from June 1-14.

Malaysia reported a record 9,020 new COVID-19 cases and 98 deaths yesterday.
