KUALA LUMPUR: PAS and MIC today expressed their support for the leadership of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister.

PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang pledged his undivided support to the prime minister and said it was also the stand of the party's 18 MPs.

"PAS expressed regret over any action that could threaten political stability in the country, especially in a situation where the government is struggling to face the health and economic crisis that is plaguing the country," he said in a statement.

He said PAS also called on all the people to unite and support the government's measures in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, especially the ongoing National Recovery Plan.

UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced in a statement early today that the party is immediately withdrawing and terminating its support for Muhyiddin as the prime minister.

Meanwhile, MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan said the main focus now was to look after the welfare of the people and not the political interests of any party.

MIC would continue to support Muhyiddin's leadership, he told reporters after distributing food baskets to the people of Tapah.

He said UMNO's decision to withdraw and end its support for Muhyiddin should be finalised at the Barisan Nasional (BN) level.

"As a political party, that is UMNO's stand and as an ally, I respect the decision of the Supreme Council. At the same time, MIC also needs to discuss. This matter needs to be finalised at the BN level," he said.

Meanwhile, MIC Facebook account quoted MIC president Tan Sri S. A. Vigneswaran as saying that Ahmad Zahid's demands were unclear and lacked direction.

"UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi should tell party Cabinet members to resign from their posts before asking the prime minister to step down," he said.
