Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is expected to file a lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) this Tuesday for its report claiming that a staggering US$700 million (RM2.6 billion) of state-linked funds were channeled into his personal bank account.

The portal quoted a source close to the Prime Minister said that Najib will make an announcement on his decision in a ceremony this evening in Semenyih.

“He would file the suit through his lawyers in Kuala Lumpur,” the sources said as quoted in the portal.

Last Friday, the WSJ published a report claimed that US$700 million in funds belonging to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) was channeled into the premier's personal account before the 13th General Election (GE13).

1MDB denied the allegations and insisted that no funds were transferred into Najib's personal account.

Najib in a statement on his Facebook page also denied the allegations and claimed that former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had cooperated with foreign parties to discredit him.

Najib's political secretary, Datuk Khairun Aseh in a statement to Sinar Harian on Saturday stressed that the report was malicious in nature.
