As many as 50 participants gathered at the Sunway Tol Plaza located at the Damansara-Puchong highway in protest of the toll hike which will take effect tomorrow.

They were seen carrying placards and inviting other road users to honk in support of the protest.

Puchong MP, Gobind Singh said, the toll hike was viewed as a burden especially for the people in Puchong.

“We, the people in Puchong are the most affected as we are surrounded by highways.

“The only available alternative is through the Old Klang Road and this road is irrelevant to the rapid development in Puchong,” said Gobind to the media.

Many road users also expressed their disappointment over the increase as the current cost of living is already a burden.

“I like in Sungai Buluh and I work at Shah Alam. My daily cost for toll earlier cost around RM10.

“My daily toll cost will now hit RM15 per day. That is just me. When it is added to the toll cost
incurred by my wife, we will now have to spend around RM400 monthly for toll alone,” said Razak, a participant who joined in the protest.

As for Sally Sian, a marketing manager, the toll hike has caused her operational cost to increase as well.

“I always use the highway when I head to certain locations for the purpose of work.

“This toll hike will cause my operational cost to increase,” said Sally to Astro AWANI.
