School van driver Mohd Izhharuddin Nordin who was due to get married in a fortnight, died after he was punched by a man last night in Jalan Sungai Udang, Teluk Pulai here.

His fiancee, Siti Umi Kalthum Md Sopian, 32, said the incident occurred at a time when she and her family were in the midst of preparing for the wedding which was set for Feb 20.

"It is just a few more days to go, and some of the invitation cards have already been sent, including for the reception on the groom's side.

"He (Mohd Izhharuddin) was very excited about our wedding," she told reporters at her home in Kampung Delek here today.

It is understood the 24-year-old victim was punched by the assailant about 7pm when he failed to fetch the man's niece from a religious school in Jalan Hasan here.

Mohd Izhharuddin had earlier fetched several students from the school but not the niece as he thought she had returned home earlier.

The man was said to be unhappy and stopped the van. An argument followed and he punched Izhharuddin who was in the driver's seat.

Meanwhile, the magistrate's court here issued an order to remand a 29-year-old suspect for a week beginning today, to facilitate investigations into murder.
