KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor today received a letter of appointment as the new pro-chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) from Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin who is also UMS chancellor.

The ceremony took place at the Istana Negeri and was witnessed by chairman of UMS board of directors Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan and vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Taufiq Yap Yun Hin.

With the appointment, the university now has two pro-chancellors including Amcorp Group Berhad executive chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim who was appointed in November 2018.

Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, Abdul Rahman said Hajiji was appointed pro-chancellor, replacing former Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

"We hope this appointment can further strengthen the relationship between the state government and UMS in developing the education agenda in Sabah," he said.
