An evaluation by Ministry of Human Resources (MOHR) indicates that the minimum wage compliance by employers nationwide is nearly 100 percent up to October this year.

Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot said checks on 32,000 employers showed that 98 percent of the companies had complied with the regulation.

"Only about 500 employers have still failed to do so. For those who have still failed to comply, counseling sessions are given to advise them and if they still do not comply, action will be taken against them," he told reporters after officiating the Commuting Accidents Prevention Seminar (CAPS) 2014 here today.

He said checks on the implementation of minimum wage involved all sectors except for domestic workers and apprenticeships.

Earlier, in his speech, Riot said a total of RM400 million had been paid out the Social Security Organisation (Socso) in 2013 and another RM300 million up to September this year as workers compensation involving
commuting accidents.

He said in 2013, 27,671 (43.5 percent) of the total 65,578 accidents reported to Socso were commuting accidents while 20,977 (44 percent) out of 47,373 accidents of the same nature were reported from January until September this year.

During the event, Richard Riot also launched a guidebook entitled 'Good Practice in Implementing Commuting Safety Management', consisting of a comprehensive study on what should and should not be done by employers and employees in ensuring their safety.
