Miss Malaysia Universe 2004, Andrea Veronica Fonseka is now looking forward to motherhood after being married to an Australian lawyer, Paul Dewar in 2010.
“I feel blessed because now I have the ability to pick and choose my work a lot better than before. As for the next phase, I’m trying to work as little as possible. I’m doing the necessary things to prepare me for motherhood which are eating healthier foods and working out.
“The time is approaching for my husband and I, and if we are blessed then we will have a baby next year. I would be extremely happy with that,” said Fonseka with a wide smile on her face.
Now that she has finally moved in with her husband in Perth Australia, Andrea is still busy with her modelling which requires her to fly back and forth from Malaysia, Australia and Singapore.
“I had a talk with him (husband) on raising our children and we want to make sure they would know where they came from which is very important especially for ‘celup’ kids growing up overseas.
“I think I would have two or three children in the future. But I think we will have one first and see how it goes,” she added.
Currently, Fonseka is the official ‘face’ of La Putri Outstanding Jewellery Designer Competition 2013 as well as one of the judges on the esteemed panel.
Using rubies, the designers competing are required to design a piece or a set of jewellery for Andrea herself.
“La Putri wants to provide a platform for young budding designers because, you can see there are a lot of fashion designers but not for jewellery designers,” she said.
Fonseka, who was born in Penang, is known for rebranding Miss Universe Malaysia by going beyond just looks and changing people's mindset.
“Rebranding was part of how I and other Miss Universe Malaysia had lived our lives which is through hard work and dedication. There are much more depth than just having a pretty face.
“Yesterday I just finished shooting for the Fall/Winter collection for Eclipse by Sonny San and he doesn’t just choose anyone to model his clothes,” she said.
Born in 1984, Fonseka is of mixed ethnic heritage. Her father is of Sinhalese (Sri Lankan), Portuguese, Spanish, and Filipino descent, while her mother is of Chinese descent.
She first came to the public's attention when she hosted the first season of Xfresh.tv, a teen program produced by Malaysia's Astro TVIQ.
In 2004, she followed in her mother's footsteps by winning the Miss Malaysia Universe title.
She was voted the world's sexiest woman in FHM Singapore’s 100 Sexiest Women in the World for 2007. She won No. 1 ranking for the second time in 2008, making her the first repeat winner for FHM's Top 100 Sexiest.
