Famous Tamil film star Rajinikanth on Monday paid a courtesy call on Melaka Governor Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob at his office in Ayer Keroh here.

Rajinikanth, who is in Melaka for the filming of the movie 'Kabali', arrived at 10.30am and spent about an hour with the Governor.

Mohd Khalil said Melaka welcomed the movie being filmed against the backdrop of the state, thus giving prominence to Melaka and Malaysia internationally and indirectly boosting Malaysian tourism.

Mohd Khalil had always been interested in films from South India and at the meeting, the two discussed the best movies Rajinikanth had starred in especially 'Muthu' which was filmed in 1995.

"He (Rajinikanth), is a great guy and I had always been following his acting," he told reporters after the visit.

Rajinikanth, who arrived in Melaka on Monday for his 156th film, will be in the state until Friday and among "Kabali" filming locations here are Jalan Kota, Bandar Hilir and Seri Negeri Ayer Keroh Complex here.
