A United States (US) Senator is urging for FIFA to cancel the 2022 World Cup hosting rights to Qatar and move it to the US in view of its bad labour records.

Senator Bob Casey of the Democrat in a letter addressed to FIFA president, Sepp Blatter, also touched on corruption and the violation on labour rights especially foreign labours.

“Labours normally do not complete the legal procedures in obtaining a work permit. This causes the workers to face the risk of being caught and sent home,” stated Casey in his letter quoted by a news portal, Politico.com.

He also stated that 94 percent of workers in Qatar were foreign workers.

US and Qatar were the two final candidates in the bid to host the 2022 World Cup. During the final vote in December 2010, Qatar outnumbered US 14-8.

In his letter to Blatter, Casey reminded that the US has 50 cities which are ready to host the 2022 World Cup. He also reminded how the FIFA officials themselves have admitted that hosting the tournament in Qatar could be “high risk”.

FIFA refused to comment on the letter sent by the senator.
