Two Malaysians who had gone swimming at the Cunca Wulang waterfalls in the Mibeliling district in Flores have gone missing.

Malaysian ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohamed Hashim, when contacted by Bernama, identified them as Mohamad Azfar Tahir, 23, from Kuala Lumpur and Mohammad Ezzaq Azumi, 23, from Kelantan.

They are believed to have come to Flores with three other friends for a holiday.

Both victims were said to be missing after jumping into the waterfall area after arriving at the spot at about 10.30 am this morning.

On seeing the incident, a local believed to be a tour guide, Wenseslaus Hendro Akung, 39, tried to save them but he too was reported missing soon after.

The other three Malaysians sought the assistance of the public and contacted the police.

Zahrain said a search and rescue operation by the local authorities began at 3pm and was stopped at 5pm after darkness fell and will be resumed tomorrow morning.
