Australia and other nations around the world have continued to stand together with the hashtag #illridewithyou to combat Islamophobia despite the conclusion of the hostage drama in Sydney early this morning.

It began with a Facebook post by Rachael Jacobs about a Muslim woman on the train with her slowing removing her hijab for fear she might be attacked due to the incident taking place yesterday.

#illridewithyou subsequently started with Australians coming together to express their solidarity with Muslim Australians, and to embrace them in the country.

Within hours, the hashtag #illridewithyou went viral with continuous show of support becoming the main subject on Twitter.

The hashtag peaked at 1,250 tweets per minute on Monday evening and remained at 999 tweets per minute at 9.00 a.m. local time on Tuesday, Bernama reported.

One of the Tweets on #illridewithyou described the unity of the people in Australia:
