Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi left here Friday to attend the 30th summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the Philippines, according to official sources, China''s Xinhua news agency reported.

Suu Kyi''s attendance of the regional summit will be followed by her official visit to Europe.

Aimed at enhancing cooperation with the European countries, Suu Kyi''s over week-long tour to Europe will be the first after the government of her National League for Democracy (NLD) took office in April 2016.

In June 2012, Suu Kyi, then as chairperson of the opposition NLD and a parliamentarian, paid a landmark tour to five European countries, namely, Switzerland, Norway, Britain, Ireland and France. -BERNAMA
