The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia continue to rise, surpassing the 30,000 mark with 993 new cases within 24 hours.

The Indonesian government spokesperson on COVID-19 Achmad Yurianto said between noon yesterday and noon today, 31 deaths due to the virus were recorded, bringing the total number of deaths to 1,801, while the total positive cases now stood at 30,514.

"A total of 13,347 patients are still under surveillance," he said in his daily press conference broadcast via the National Agency for Disaster Management's (BNPB) official YouTube channel.

Drastic increase in positive cases occurred in East Java with 286 new positive cases and 17 deaths in the last 24 hours.

No deaths were recorded in Jakarta during the 24-hour period, but it still holds the record of highest casualties with 524 deaths, followed by East Java (464), West Java (158) while the rest were in the other provinces.
