Indonesia reported 1,624 more new positive cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, the highest since the first case was detected on March 2.

The total number of positive cases in Indonesia now stands at 59,394, while the death toll has risen to 2,987, with 53 more deaths within 24 hours.

The Indonesian government spokesperson on COVID-19, Achmad Yurianto said in his daily press conference broadcast via the National Agency for Disaster Management's (BNPB) official YouTube channel that between noon yesterday and noon today, 13,359 patients were still under surveillance,

The increase in positive cases has caused concern for many as several provinces, including Central Java, West Java and Jakarta have begun imposing the transition or recovery process by allowing some socio-economic activities to re-open since early and mid-June.

Yesterday, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said the large-scale social restriction (PSBB) in the transition or recovery phase in Jakarta has been extended by another 14 days and would be reviewed based on the current development of COVID-19 cases.
