When one thinks about DRB-HICOM, it is not widely known that this organisation also includes a university.
“Progress must always be accompanied with good education,” says Omar bin Hj. Osman, the Vice-Chancellor of DRB-HICOM University.
“Strengthening the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) at DRB-HICOM University, we offer Diploma and Bachelor degree studies in Automotive Technology. In fact, we’ve won second and third place in the Open Category of Pre-qualifying for National World Skills Competition 2018. It also witnessed Simon Wong from DRB-HICOM University qualifying for the final stage that will be held at Centre for Instructor and Advanced Skill Training (CIAST) in September 2018,” he says.
DRB-HICOM University is amongst the first in ASEAN to offer home-grown bachelor degree, master and doctoral programmes relating to the automotive ecosystem, which includes mechanical, business and management studies.
“What makes us different is our balanced approach to education; similar to the dual training concept widely practiced in Germany where nearly 60 percent of its workers train as apprentices,” Prof. Omar continues.
Since its humble beginning as International College of Automotive (ICAM) in April 2010, DRB-HICOM University of Automotive Malaysia today has grown to become a full-fledged university in October 2015.
Operating from a well facilitated 42-acre campus strategically located in the DRB-HICOM Automotive Complex in Pekan, the university now houses two faculties namely the Faculty of Engineering & Technology and Faculty of Business & Management.
