Thailand has reported three new COVID-19 cases - all Thai returnees from abroad, and zero fatalities over the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative total to 3,249 cases with 58 fatalities.

Today marks 55 days with no local transmission in Thailand.

Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) spokesman Thaweesilp Wissanuyothin said the new patients including two Thai men aged 43 and 64 who returned from Singapore and a 39-year-old Thai man who came back from Sudan.

"All new patients are undergoing quarantine at state facilities. They have no contact with the public since their arrivals," he said at COVID-19 briefing today.

To date, he said a total of 3,096 patients recovered and have been discharged from hospitals while 95 remain warded.

Meanwhile, a poll by Dusit Rajabhat University showed 94.51 per cent of Thais wants foreigners to be banned from entering the kingdom to prevent a second wave of COVID-19.

The poll was carried online from July 14 to 18 on 1,459 people nationwide.

To prevent a new wave of COVID-19 outbreak, 86.41 per cent said the process of screening and quarantine of Thai returnees from abroad must be stringent and 83.80 per cent agreed all must continue to wear face mask and frequently wash their hands while 76.73 per cent said the government should provide free COVID-19 test.

The poll showed the major concerns of Thais of a second wave of COVID-19 transmission including spread of the deadly virus, unemployment, shutdown of businesses, closure of schools and a lockdown.
