Singapore, which is in the fourth week of Phase Two of reopening of its economy and social activities, confirmed another 178 new cases of COVID-19 infection in the last 24 hours.

With the latest development, it takes the infection tally for the republic to 45,961 cases.

According to the brief noon data released by its Ministry of Health (MOH) today, the vast majority of the cases were work permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories.

"Based on our investigations so far, there is one case in the community, who is a Singaporean," it said.

In addition, MOH said there was one imported case who had been placed on Stay-Home Notice (SHN) upon arrival in Singapore.

The republic has so far issued 96,200 SHN and 10,800 are active.

In its full data released late yesterday, Singapore classified 610 of its cases as imported, 2,051 as community cases and 43,122 as dorm residents.

As at noon yesterday, 42,026 or about 92 per cent of the patients had fully recovered and been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.

There were 192 confirmed cases still in hospital yesterday, with one in the intensive care unit.

The statement added that 3,539 patients who had symptoms or were clinically well but still tested positive for COVID-19 have been isolated and being cared for at community facilities.

So far, 26 people have died in the city-state from complications due to COVID-19, with the first two fatalities reported on March 21.

One new cluster was identified yesterday, a dormitory at 53L Tuas South Avenue 1 with four cases.
