The number of positive COVID-19 cases in Indonesia has climbed to 76,981, with another 1,282 new cases reported in the past 24 hours.

Indonesian government spokesman for COVID-19 Achmad Yurianto said that from 12 noon yesterday to 12 noon today, there were 50 more fatalities, bringing the death toll to 3,656.

"A total of 13,439 patients are still under surveillance," he told a daily media conference aired over the official YouTube channel of Indonesia's National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB).

East Java province continues to record the highest positive cases with 16,877, followed by Jakarta (14,797 cases) and the remaining cases in other provinces.

The province of East Java also recorded the highest overall death toll of 1,226, followed by Jakarta (697), Central Java (240), South Sulawesi (226) and the rest in the other provinces.
