Two men in Madhya Pradesh allegedly cut off the genitals of a man who had eloped with their sister, police said.

They said the incident occurred at Berasia, a suburb of Bhopal, on Tuesday.

The brothers had been unhappy with the 28-year-old man since he eloped with their sister, The Hindustan Times reported quoting the police.

The resident of Garethia Dangi village, located 40km from Bhopal, had married their sister against the wishes of her family.

On Tuesday, the man was called by the girl's brothers to their home in Mahuakheda on the pretext of holding discussions to end the dispute.

The brothers promised the couple that they would get a proper marriage solemnised so that their relationship would have social sanction.

When the man reached the house of the two brothers, there was an altercation.

The brothers overpowered him and one of them allegedly attacked him with a knife, slashing his genitals, police said.

The men was rushed to a nearby hospital. Later, he was shifted to Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal.

Officials said the man, a medical representative, and the girl, had married and were living together.

The girl's family, however, felt it was a live-in relationship that brought them disgrace.
