PAS candidate, Ahmad Fathan Mahmood has won the Chempaka by-election with a total 10,899 votes and a 10,092 majority.

The Election Commission estimates 55 percent of the 21,890 ordinary voters registered in the Chempaka state constituency came out to vote in today's by-election.

The result of the by-election is expected to be announced at 9.30pm.

Voting proceeded smoothly in the Chempaka state by-election today, with women and the elderly coming out to exercise their right.

Members are free to decide on which candidate is best to represent them, says Kelantan UMNO chairman Mustapa Mohamed.

The Chempaka state constituency has a total of 20,390 normal voters.

UMNO has terminated the membership of Sharif Mahmood and Fadzillah Hussin who are standing as independent candidates in the Chempaka by-election in Kelantan, with immediate effect.
