A total of 745 investigation papers were opened against employers who committed various offences under Act 446 between February and Tuesday.

The enforcement is under the Workers' Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act 1990 (Act 446).

A total of 3,927 accommodation certificate applications were received by the Department of Labour Peninsular Malaysia (JTKSM) for the period September to November.

The continuous enforcement of the Workers Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act 1990 (Act 446) is crucial to ensuring efforts to eradicate elements of forced labour and human trafficking.

Datuk Seri M. Saravanan said errant employers would not be fined during this period as well since the enforcement of the act is still in its early stages.

Saravanan says the act which came into force on Sept 1 was not implemented in haste and the decision to implement it was made last year before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The act will be enforced by the JTKSM to ensure the employers comply with the provision of the laws.
