We all have at least one WhatsApp group chat that is muted (mute period may vary) to block any notifications coming from the group.

It is usually due to chat frequency of the group or your inability to leave the group, especially when the group chat involves family members or close friends.

The serenity from muting the group chat, however, may end soon.

WhatsApp latest update allows user to tag any group chat member by typing “@” followed by the user's name.

Annoying group chat is back?

Many users already voiced concern over the new feature which will override the mute function which WhatsApp has long provided, allowing people to turn off notifications for a specific amount of time or indefinitely.

So far, the only way to turn off the feature is to either leave the group entirely or to turn off notifications from the application.

Improve group chat functionality

The update is seen as another effort from WhatsApp to become a complete chat platform for work purposes or managing family affairs.

The tag feature will allow a group chat member to receive important or urgent messages even if the group is muted.

Previously, WhatsApp introduced an update to allow the users to share document files such as PDF using the chat platform.
