National gymnasts N. Shasangari and Koi Sie Yan created SEA Games history in Singapore when both were awarded gold medals after scoring identical points in the same event, here today.

Shasangari and Sie Yan, both 16, marked their debut by accumulating 60.250 points through four disciplines - hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon - in the individual All Around event of rhythmic gymnastics.

Thailand's Panjarat Prawatyotin took the bronze with 57.350 points since the silver medal was not awarded in the event.

Shasangari for one, regarded the success as a miracle and an unique experience.

"We have never dreamt that two gold medals will be awarded in the same event...we targeted one gold medal and a silver. We got two gold medals for our country.

"Our success today is a miracle and but nothing is impossible. During the competition we gave our full concentration, we forgot about the crowd...its only us, music and apparatus on the carpet," said Shasangari.

Sie Yan said the National team had prepared well for the competition by competing in a number of international events.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who arrived with his wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman to watch the gymnasts in action, later presented the medals to the winners.
