Head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee wants former Harimau Muda (Under 22) players to show their abilities so that they can be drafted into the national team.

Kim Swee, who once coached the Harimau Muda team, said the players had extensive experience from training in Europe and also featured in several football leagues.

"Former Harimau Muda players should try to win a place in the national team for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2016," he told reporters at Wisma FAM on Monday.

Formed in 2007, the Harimau Muda team was disbanded in 2015.

Meanwhile, the 24 players selected to attend national training camp have turned up except for Perak player, Nazirul Naim Che Hashim.

Kim Swee said the centralised training is to prepare for Malaysia's international 'A' friendly match against Indonesia at Manahan Stadium, Surakrata on Sept 6.

"I am monitoring to see whether Brendan Gan and Ahmad Hazwan Bakri can play or not against Indonesia.

"Brendan suffered a back injury for a long time while Ahmad Hazwan was nursing an injured ankle. I have yet to be told what happened to Nazirul," he added.
