Rio Olympics bound shuttler Tee Jing Yi who suffered an ankle injury recently claimed her injury was not serious and could still be on the flight to Rio de Janeiro Olympics in Brazil come August.

Jing Yi said her right ankle injury was healing fast and that she could even be ready to participate in the Australia Open in Sydney from June 7 to 12.

"My injury is not serious and I am recovering quickly although there is pain in my right ankle. My focus now will be to prepare for the Australia Open," she told reporters.

Jing Yi, the country's top women's singles shuttler and ranked 29th in the world had qualified for the Rio Olympics on merit but limped out with an ankle injury in the First National Circuit final at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara last Saturday, fueling rumours that she would not be able to make it to Rio.

Media reports had also emerged that in the event that she failed to recover from the injury, youngster Goh Jin Wei would be her replacement.

However, women's coach Wong Tat Meng said Jing Yi had recovered from the injury and was undergoing light training since yesterday.

"Jing Yi told me there is only slight pain and swelling around the ankle. I feel the injury is not serious and can be ready for Rio and feature in her second Olympics," he told Bernama when contacted today.

Apart from Jing Yi, national shuttlers who have earned a ticket to Rio are two-time Olympic Games silver medallist Datuk Lee Chong Wei, Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong (men's doubles), Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying (mixed doubles) and Vivian Hoo/Woon Khe Wei (women's doubles).
