Johor's Wong Fu Kang broke the 20-year-old Sukma record in the men's 100 meter breaststroke, today when he crossed the finishing line in 1:03.05 seconds at the Sarawak Aquatic Centre, here.

The 18-year-old renewed the 1:04.46s record set by Elvin Chia in the 1996 Pahang Sukma.

However, it was not enough to match his personal best and also the national record of 1:02.47s, he set at the 2015 Singapore SEA Games to clinch the gold medal.

"This is my fastest time this year, I am really glad I did this timing today. I was focusing on my studies before this," the Larkin-born told reporters after the prize giving ceremony.

Selangor's Shaun Yap Kah Choon and Daniel Lim Jun Liang took the silver and bronze after recording 1:04.50s and 1:04.54s respectively.

In the women's 100m breaststroke, Christina Loh from Federal Territories (FT), also set the Games record after clocking 1:12.32s, compared to her previous record of 1:12.41s set in 2012.

Koh Jia Yi of Selangor and Terengganu's Carynn Kay Chan bagged the silver and bronze respectively.

Meanwhile, Selangor's Caroline Chan Zi Xin rewrote her own meet record of 30.34s set at 2012, after finishing 30.18s in the women's 50m backstroke event.

Fatin Amira of Selangor and Chris Tan Li Ling of Sabah took the silver and bronze respectively.

Another Johorean, Tern Jian Han set a new meet record after clocking 26.57s in the men's 50m backstroke, leaving behind Keith Lim of FT and Selangor's Wong Tzi Rok who had to be centented with the silver and bronze.

Selangor performed well in the first day of the pool event, when it bagged four gold, four silver and three bronze medals followed by Johor (3-0-1) and FT (1-2-2).
