The Youth and Sports ministry aims for cash sponsorship of RM30 million for organising the 2017 Kuala Lumpur
SEA Games.

Its minister, Khairy Jamaluddin said that he would announce the first phase of the main sponsors next month.

"We are in the final stage of signing a sponsorship contract," he told reporters after the presentation of Sports Pitch 2016 here, today.

The presentation attended by local and international private companies aims to draw sponsorship for the country's sports assets.

Khairy said the sports assets include the athletes, National Sports Award, National Sports Day, National Football Development Programme, FitMalaysia and the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.

"After transformation, we are ready to offer private companies the opportunity to sponsor sports development programmes that can bring them big returns.

"Prior to this, private companies sponsor based on CSR (corporate social responsibility) which seemed to bring no returns, but this conference proves that sports is a business."

Commenting on preparation for the 2017 Kula Lumpur SEA Games, Khairy said Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) will be the venue for indoor sports.

The choice of KLCC as one of the venues was to draw the interest of urban sports fans to support the Malaysian contingent in the biennial games.
