The Selangor government has declared Monday (Dec 14) as a public holiday in the state following Selangor's Malaysia Cup win.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said it is a sign of gratitude for the Selangor football squad coached by Mehmet Durakovic.

The public holiday had the consent of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and was referred to State Secretary Datuk Mohammed Khusrin Munawi.

Selangor beat Kedah 2-0 thanks to goals from striker Ahmad Hazwan Bakri at the third minute and 47th minute in the final at Shah Alam Stadium tonight.

It is Selangor's 33rd Malaysia Cup win.

"I am happy that Selangor has ended a 10-year drought in the Malaysia Cup competition and hope this success can be continued," said Mohamed Azmin at a news conference after the conclusion of the match.

Mohamed Azmin, who is also Football Association of Selangor (FAS) president, said he and team manager Amirudin Shari will refer to the Executive Council on the future of Durakovic.

"I'm not going to give a decision at the moment as it is still premature. I would rather discuss the matter with the (FAS) Exco members.

"Since there is a lot of speculation about his (Durakovic) future, I do not think it is fair for me to make any statement based on speculations," he added.
