LAST night, the national anthem ‘Negaraku’ was played at Rio, Brazil for the third time.

This is definitely a proud moment for all Malaysians.

Malaysia's long jump parathlete Abdul Latif Romly won Malaysia's third gold in the T20 category on Sunday and setting a new world record with 7.60 meters (m) jump on his fifth and final attempt.

The 19-year-old from Beseri, Perlis didn't just break the world record once, he did it three times in his attempts with records 7.47m in his second jump and 7.54m in his third jump.

Here are some interesting facts about our nation hero:

1. Latif is a Paralympic athlete with intellectual disabilities.

2. Aged 19 years, Latif is from Kampung Paya Kelubi, Perlis.

3. He made his debut in Paralympics, this year - he managed to break the world record, which was previously held by Jose Exposito, from Spain (7.37m) in 2003.

4. He won gold medals in the men's long jump championship at the Asian Para Games 2014, ASEAN Para Games 2015, IPC Athletics World Championships 2015 and 18th Sukan Malaysia (Sukma) 2016 .

5. Latif outshined normal athletes during Sukma 2016 by winning the men's long jump gold.

6. After creating a new championship record in Sukma 2016, Latif was all set to bring home the gold from Rio.

7. According to Malaysia Online Marketing portal, in preparation for the Paralympics in Rio, Latif was trained in Germany.
