Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said Malaysia has no problem in hosting two sporting events, the 29th SEA Games and the ASEAN Para Games simultaneously, next year.

This is because Malaysia is ready in terms of logistics, competition venues, selection of schedule, technical personnel, transport facilities and so on.

However, Khairy who is also 29th SEA Games Organising Committee (SOC) chairman, said a decision on holding the two events simultaneously will only be finalised next month.

"We are still waiting for the decision of the SEA Games Federation and the ASEAN Para Games Federation as they have to agree to it. We have proposed to hold the two games simultaneously branding it as Kuala Lumpur 2017 and hope for a positive response from time," he told reporters after the signing of collaboration agreements between the Malaysian SEA Games Organising Committee (Masoc) and Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) as Platinum sponsor of Kuala Lumpur 2017 here, today.

Khairy said the competition venues for the two games slated for Aug 19-31 would be finalised once the final list of events to be contested was decided.

"I have told the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) that they can announce the final list of sports and events to be contested next weekend.

"Once the list of sports is finalised, we can finalise the venues outside Bukit Jalil," he added.

TM is Platinum sponsor with sponsorship of RM15 million comprising of RM3 million cash and RM12 million via the provision of broadband internet facilities.

The agreement was signed by TM group chief executive officer, Datuk Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa and Masoc Secretariat chief executive officer, Datuk Seri Zolkples Embong.

Kuala Lumpur 2017 sponsors are divided into four categories namely, Platinum (RM7.5 million to RM15 million), Gold (RM3-RM7.5 million), Silver (RM1-3 million) and Bronze (RM1 million).
