MALAYSIAN squash queen and world number one player Datuk Nicol Ann David is currently in Tokyo, Japan to pitch for the inclusion of the sport in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

According to worldsquash.org, squash is up for inclusion alongside seven other sports after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) made the decision to allow the 2020 Olympic hosts to choose additional sports.

In September 2013, the IOC restored wrestling as an Olympic sport, leaving other short-listers in the bid squash and baseball/softball on the sidelines for the 2020 Games.

“The road has been a long one but like all of my fellow players I am so pleased that squash is in the fight now.

"We keep saying that squash would bring something special and new to the Olympics,” said Nicol

Accompanying Nicol during the presentation was World Squash Federation (WSF) president Narayana Ramachandran.

“We have further scrutiny at a Q&A, then can only hope we receive a nomination from the Tokyo Organizing Committee to the IOC.

"It will be a hard wait, but if Squash achieves the dream for our athletes it will be well worth it,” he said.

The Olympic Games 2020 Additional Event Panel set to reveal it's nominations in August 2016.
