Several members of parliament today congratulated world Number One shuttler Datuk Lee Chong Wei who won his fourth All-England Badminton Championships title last night in Birmingham.

Most of them, including those from the opposition, also expressed the hope that the national badminton ace would be able to bag the title for the fifth time next year.

Datuk Seri Hasan Malek (BN-Kuala Pilah) was among the first to congratulate Chong Wei.

Chong Wei previously won the All-England Championships in 2011, 2012 and 2014.

Also taking the opportunity to wish congratulations was Jeli MP Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

"On behalf of the people Jeli, Kelantan, and Malaysians I would like to congratulate Datuk Lee Chong Wei for winning the All-England Championships. Congratulations!" said Mustapa, who is International Trade and Industry Minister.

Lim Guan Eng (DAP-Bagan), who is Penang Chief Minister, said he felt proud over Chong Wei's achievement.

In the final, Chong Wei faced no problem in defeating his younger opponent from China, Shi Yuqi, 21-12, 21-10 in 45 minutes.

However, national mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying lost 21-18, 19-21 and 16-21 in their final match to China's Lu Khai-Huang Yaqiong. -- Bernama
