SINGAPORE: Filipino MMA star Kevin Belingon has been crowned the undisputed ONE Bantamweight World Champion after defeating Brazilian legend Bibiano Fernandes via split decision at ONE: Heart Of The Lion, tonight.

Belingon of Team Lakay ended Fernandes’ almost five year reign to successfully unify the bantamweight titles.

During the fight, Belingon employed a terrific game plan, attacking Fernandes’ body with thudding spinning back kicks while connecting on fiery boxing combinations.

Fernandes did his best to take the action to the ground, but Belingon showed much improved grappling skills.

After five rounds of action, Belingon took home the victory via split decision.

“Bibiano is a very tough opponent, I really had a hard time beating him tonight. I respect him very much, and it is an honor to fight such a tough fighter.

“I know Bibiano is very tough, but I think I deserve this victory. The game plan was to knock him out. We saw [a weakness] in his previous fight.

“I kept on giving him everything, but he has good defense,” said Belingon.
In the co-main event of the evening, former ONE World Title challenger Christian Lee gave fans at the Singapore Indoor Stadium a reason to celebrate after defeating Japan’s Kazuki Tokudome via technical knockout (TKO) in the first round.

Lee weathered Tokudome’s takedown efforts in the opening moments of the bout before landing a solid right straight that dropped his Japanese opponent to the canvas.

Lee finished the task at hand by raining down piston-like ground shots, forcing the referee to step in and wave it off.

Meanwhile, two Malaysian fighters, Muhammad Aiman and Hisyam Samsudin did not fare well in their quest to bring home the win tonight.

Nevertheless, the two did not go home without leaving some memorable bruises to their opponents.

Muhammad Aiman lost to Japan’s Shuya Kamikubo via unanimous decision, while Hisyam lost to China’s Xie Bin via submission (D’arce Choke) in the first round.
